A Canberra family’s mission to teach their kids the correct meaning of Christmas by spreading very good cheer in their neighborhood has captured hearts on social media.

This year Latoya and Ellie Marks decided alternatively of an having an advent calendar in the lead up to Christmas, they and their four children would comprehensive a random act of kindness.

Family members overwhelmed by social media response

Latoya Yates stated shortly after the message was left, friends who had been following her own Operation Christmas Spirit posts on Facebook realised who was accountable and tagged her in the post.

“When we read it both my partner and I were reduced to tears … you don’t actually know when you do some thing like that who its going to or what their background is, what their story is, and of course we had no thought that the tiny girl that we gave the card to was in fact a foster youngster,” she said.

“We just couldn’t think how grateful they have been and how significantly such a modest, simple gesture meant so a lot to somebody else.”

Ms Marks stated she had not been in speak to with the person who posted the message on Facebook, but that was not the point.

“We have not actually spoken to them … simply because they are a foster family members and they do need to be protected,” she stated.

The Marks household have because been make contact with by a barrage of journalists, and Ms Marks mentioned she and her partner have been initially hesitant to speak about Operation Christmas Spirit.

“I did not want individuals to know that it was us, we did not do it for acknowledgement, we did not do it for any reward,” she stated.

“Lots of individuals began asking for our address so they could send us cards and gift and items like that, which is so wonderful. But once more, we didn’t do it for any sort of reward.”

Ms Marks and her companion are presently caring for their personal seven-week-old newborn infant, but Operation Christmas Spirit is ongoing.
