South Australia’s Upper Home has refused to continue its debate on the Government’s controversial proposed preparing legislation and broken for its Christmas break.

The Legislative Council has spent an added week debating the bill soon after the Government tried to push it through the Parliament.

The bill, which aimed to prevent urban sprawl and streamline the organizing process, has angered local councils which have argued it would reduce them out of selection creating.

Planning Minister John Rau earlier right now mentioned he hoped the Property would meet the Government’s demands.

“We’d really like that to come about and we’re sitting here now in truth, this afternoon, waiting for that to come about so that we can break for Christmas with that all squared away,” he said.

Amendments in the Upper Residence have currently scuttled plans to develop an urban development boundary.

After 18 hours of debate, the Legislative Council got through significantly less than a quarter of the bill.

Mr Rau accused the members of wasting time.

“There are some who are slightly petulant about becoming required to stay back at school beyond what they believed was the vacation time,” he said.

“I, very frankly, cannot see why they can not sit tomorrow, Saturday, Sunday, subsequent week for that matter.”

Greens MLC Mark Parnell mentioned members had been functioning late into the evenings to deal with the bill.

“The Minister needs to have a long challenging look at himself. The reason we’ve had to sit till 11 o’clock every single night dealing with this is simply because the Minister did not introduce the bill into Parliament for two months soon after he stated,” Mr Parnell stated.

Opposition Leader Steven Marshall mentioned several alterations, such as from Government, had been created to the bill.

“The reality is that the Government has moved in excess of 160 amendments to its personal Government bill. This is nearly unprecedented in the history of the South Australian Parliament,” he said.

But the Minister’s want was not granted tonight, with the House voting at 6pm to break and return to the chamber in February.
